Wednesday 26 September, 7pm

Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AF

Organised through Invoke Democracy Now. Tickets (£2 to £3) available via Eventbrite.

Description below taken from the meeting notice on Eventbrite.

Based on the Chequers deal the referendum decision to leave the EU faces being overturned and Britain looks likely to leave in name only.

This represents the culmination of a “slow betrayal of Brexit” by the Government and a political elite, many of whom merely pay lip service to leaving. In the process the largest democratic mandate for anything, ever, in the UK, risks being overturned.

This would be a monumental betrayal of democratic principles. In the circumstances we must defend democracy against all such attempts to ignore it, dilute it or subvert it. Threats which emanate from within government and without. Otherwise we are in danger of confirming the view that our votes count for nothing.

The meeting aims to rally democrats to defend democracy and uphold the democratic mandate to leave the EU.

We have five great speakers lined up:

Julie Burchill & Jane Robins will be providing us with a sneak preview of their new play “People Like Us - A Play about Sex and Brexit”

Seb Handley - Brighton based singer songwriter, tireless Leave campaigner, author

Mick Hume - Author and Editor at Large - Spiked

Michael Lightfoot - Artists for Brexit

Chair: David Axe - Invoke Democracy Now
