Dangerous manoeuvres

NATO military exercises are due to take place in Ukraine in July. British troops will be deployed as part of NATO’s Rapid Trident manoeuvres.

This is a dangerous move that will inevitably escalate an already tense situation. You have to ask yourself what is going on.

Ukraine, despite the dreams of its current dictators, is nowhere near the North Atlantic, from which NATO takes its name. It is not even part of Europe, however defined. It is not a member of NATO. It is, though, on Russia’s borders, and that seems to be a justification for almost anything.

Britain’s participation in military exercises by a nuclear-armed alliance with a first-strike policy can only further destabilise Ukraine. We should have no part of it.
