Applications to UK medical schools have increased by over 20 per cent. Figures published by the Medical Schools Council, the representative body for UK medical schools, show that 28,690 would-be doctors have applied for 2021 entry.

Over time, the trend is even more impressive. Back in 2017, 20,100 applied.

Applications to study nursing rose by nearly a third, 32 per cent, to reach 60,130, according to UCAS. All this in spite of a decrease of 40 per cent in nursing applicants from EU countries.
