As a nation, there are really only two ways for Britain to make a living. It can be an honest one as a manufacturing nation making things that people need. Or it can be a parasitic existence, relying on banking and tourism, and buying in what we need.

The proposed $40 billion takeover of British chip designer ARM by US company Nvidia has been referred to the Competition and Markets Authority for an investigation into the consequences of the sale.
A new concept is emerged: technology sovereignty. It recognises that IT infrastructure lies at the heart of a modern society, and it is vital to a country like Britain.

Britain’s largest computer chip maker is being swallowed up by a Chinese-controlled corporation. Newport Wafer Fab has accepted a bid from Nexperia, based in the Netherlands but owned by Wingtech Technology of China.
ARM Holdings has its origins in the BBC Micro computer, produced in the 1980s produced for schools to go along with BBC programmes on microelectronics.
Regulators around the world are looking closely at a massive bid by US company Nvidia for one of the world’s leading chip designers – the British company ARM Holdings.
